Cone maker expands in Northwestern Pennsylvania
Joy Cone has practiced the art of cone baking for 85 years. It annually produces more than 1.5 billion cones at its facilities in Pennsylvania and Arizona for retail and food service outlets. After site preparation, in August 2010, Al. Neyer began work on the foundations for the 199,000 square foot expansion at Joy Cone’s plant in Hermitage, Pa., which Joy Cone says allows it to increase production capacity for its variety of ice cream cone products. This addition brings the facility to a total 520,850 square foot.
Joy Cone controls every step of its proprietary process, from mixing the batter from a family recipe, to baking the cones in ovens created for the company, to shipping the cones in trucks that pamper the product.
Al. Neyer welcomed the challenge of designing and creating new space onsite that seamlessly blends with the existing plant, also requiring numerous integrational aspects of specific process related equipment.
